BTSE Bhutan Granted In-Principle Approval for Digital Asset Trading and Custody License
BTSE Bhutan has secured in-principle approval from the Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO) to operate as a licensed digital asset trading and custody provider within Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). The forthcoming Financial Services License will authorize two core activities: operating a multilateral trading platform for virtual assets and providing institutional-grade custody solutions.
This regulatory milestone positions BTSE Bhutan as a key player in GMC's vision to establish a sustainable virtual assets hub. The company plans to build a local team in Bhutan, creating employment opportunities while supporting long-term economic development in the special administrative region.
The approval reflects growing institutional recognition of digital asset infrastructure in emerging markets. BTSE's compliance-focused approach aligns with Bhutan's strategy to foster innovation while maintaining regulatory oversight.
